Everyone, when a package arrives:
1. Move it to the prep room 853 or 608. This is especially important when there's no receptionist around.
Whoever opens the package:
1. Whoever opens the package should count the items and write your last name and date on the packing slip. If we're short items, make a note on the slip and/or tell whomever ordered it.
2. Put the packing slip in the box on the fridge in 853 (or 608). Note that packing slips from CDW are under the mailing label.
Every 1-2 weeks the receiving czar should:
1. Get all packing slips from the drop boxes
2. For P2P items (PO #s starting with 0000), follow the instructions in "Receiving in P2P: Quick Start Guide": cpbc.ucsf.edu/files/files/Receiving_Quick_Start_Guide.pdf
Basically, the section "Steps to Record Receipts for Non-Asset Goods & Services", do steps 2,3,4,5, and 8.
Note that P2P can only be used between about 7 AM and 7 PM. This is truly ridiculous, but we're stuck with it for now.
3. For EBI items (PO #s starting with 48544), it's a good idea to keep a record of what's arrived, so go to
http://ebi.ucsf.edu/ebi/WebReport.aspx
select Item list/status
click Run Report
Print out the first page or two (items ordered since the last time the list was printed out), and staple to the top of the list by the door in 853.
Then for each item, make a check mark by the appropriate PO # on the list.
4. Finally, transfer all packing slips (they should all be signed and dated) to the "packing slips" mail folder on the top left in HSE-802.

Other notes:
Sometimes P2P shows no entries for things that have been ordered. When that happens, give the packing slip to Ned (or the assistant).
Fairly often we get boxes meant for other labs. Usually you can figure out where it should go from the packing slip, and call someone to pick it up at the Keck front desk, or have mail services redeliver it. If you can't, call Lucita and she can figure it out.
