Genetic Tools for Dissecting Neural Circuits and Behavior

Course Description:
How does the brain get wired and regulate behavior, ranging from motor coordination, to emotions, thoughts, learning and memory? In this mini-course, we will explore exciting molecular technologies that can potentially lead to a better understanding of this challenging problem. Topics include: 1) genetic tools for targeting specific cell types; 2) Tools for delineating connectivity; 3) Tools for imaging neural activity; 4) Tools for inactivating neurons. 5) Tools for activating neurons. The course will consist of faculty-led introductions on the major themes and student-led discussions of key papers.
