Course Description:
Through readings of the pertinent literature, we will explore the neural basis for learning of simple motor skills by the cerebellum. We will cover the original theory of cerebellar learning, consider the early evidence in its favor, and survey current literature that embellishes and extends the theory. Emphasis will be on the relationship among cellular mechanisms of neural plasticity, neural circuit mechanisms of learning, and adaptive behavioral changes. Behavioral systems will include classical conditioning of the eye lid response, and several kinds of eye movements.
